Sneak Peek at the New Zecco Mobile App

PLEASE NOTE: More recent updates on Zecco’s mobile trading app can be found here:

When I asked you for feedback on what traders expect from a great mobile trading app, many of you kindly offered your input. Your collective suggestions were invaluable and helped our product team create what we consider a truly amazing trading app.

So what would such an amazing app look like? Here are some screen shots our product team took to give you a sneak peek at what we’ve been up to.

Your portfolio in real-time

As you can see, you’ll get quick, one-tap access to your portfolio, market overview, watch lists, quotes screen, all your trade alerts, plus settings to customize your Zecco mobile experience.

The portfolio screen uses streaming real-time quotes for an up-to-the minute view of your holdings. Plus you can expand and collapse each of your trading accounts and watch lists so you can quickly focus on the data you need to make your trading decisions.

Trading on the go

An easy-to-read order entry screen helps to speed up your order entry – and of course quotes are updated in real-time. Whether you want to trade stocks, ETFs, options, or mutual funds, placing a trade takes just a few seconds.

An at-a-glance view of all your orders

View your orders (all, open, or executed) with helpful color-coded indicators for an at-a-glance display of their status. Tap any order to quickly see more details.

Need to make a change? All it takes is a few seconds to modify an order, or to place a cancel request.

Advanced charting and indicators

Whether you want to see a one-day chart or years worth of data for a stock you’re reviewing, you can customize your charts with a variety of style options and indicator overlays.

Plus, you can compare the relative performance of any two stocks or ETFs in any time frame you choose.

Safe and secure

The safety and security of your data is of utmost importance of course. You can rest assured that we’ve designed our app with a safe and secure automatic sign-in feature. It’s no fun to lose your phone, but if you do, your Zecco Trading account is password protected against potential unauthorized access.

Let us know what you think!

So there it is, the first view of our new mobile app. It may not be the first, but I’m betting it will be the best mobile trading app you’ve ever used.

After all, it is our mission to deliver the best online trading and investment experience, whether on the web or on your mobile device.

I’d like to thank everyone who contributed their ideas and suggestions for our new mobile app. We aim to start beta testing for our customers toward the latter part of this year. In the meantime, if you have any (additional) comments on this sneak peak, please let me know in the comments below.

The first mobile app to be released will be for the iPhone OS, as our research indicates that this is currently the device that most Zecco customers with a smartphone are using. We have made sure to design the product architecture for multiple mobile platforms, so apps for other devices are on the roadmap too.

  • rammyrammy

cant wait to start using.. looks very promising..I m ready to test the beta.. any idea if a Beta release?

  • Ericwil76

For the love of god make an identical windows mobile 7 app and an android app.

  • Jon Swift

Looks very cool, andriod is a must!

    Android support would be awesome!

  • Kevin

I’ve been waiting for a mobile app from Zecco for a while but now I’m really disappointed that it’s going to be on the iPhone first just like every other app out there.

  • Marvin

I’m an Android user and at this point I’m not sure that most traders use the iPhone.

  • Lynnie

I do hope you will consider an App for the Blackberry. Blackberry is still the most secure device and one that I, as well as my corporation, prefers. I would like to feel as secure as possible when accessing my trading account and would prefer to use my Blackberry for trading over my iPhone.

  • xMx

iPhone! yeah!! I can’t wait. I was looking at ETrade because they have the app. Now I will stay with Zecco!

  • Real

sweet…..i’ve waiting for an app for zecco on my iphone, glad you guys have been listening! It makes sense to make the app for the most widely used phone by your costumers. Hopefully your other customers on other mobile platforms won’t have to wait too long…cuz everyone should be able to enjoy this cool looking app!

  • Guest

CAN’T WAIT. Great looking app so far.

Did you actually do a survey of your users to see what platform we use? I see a lot of Android users out here and more every day. While I understand starting with one platform, please don’t take too long to add the other platforms as well…

Very nice, waiting for the release..

This looks excellent– I can’t wait to start using it!

  • Brian

Can you add a feature to allow me to make a deposit into my Zecco account from my personal checking account?

  • John

Android!!! Please we need it on Android asap.

  • pk

    Blackberry, please!!!

  • coolguyslim (@palmrules)

HP/Palm webOS. I know once I see the app for palm webOS, I’ll definitely make an account. Please make it for webOS.

  • coolguyslim (@palmrules)

I understand that the iPhone OS is the most popular but please consider the other mobile platforms (i.e. webOS, Android, BlackBerry). You are doing a disservice to the other people that don’t have an iPhone but do have a Zecco account. There are many people that aren’t going to change phones/OS just to get an app and that is lost money for the company. Think about it.

  • Knapke

Android evo 4g.. made 40-some trades so far this month, Android is a must, and would differentiate you more ;)

  • Zeccosucks

fuk the iphone. Should be on android or BB first. Zecco is still lagging behind all other brokers and dont know how to set priority and just go with the phone craze.

  • http://www.thepointlessarcade.com Relient28

An Android app would really put zecco on the map big time. I am definitely excited for it.

Mike,Firstly, let me extend my congratulations for venturing into the mobile frontier. As a Linux Engineer, I know it isn’t easy. ;) I can’t imagine precisely how much your company has invested in resources to create this awe-inspiring app. Thank you also for being proactive in directly engaging your community of customers for feedback, even in these early design phases. What most who read this comment will have to think about, is that fact that different mobile platforms address the same problems in much different ways. It really is a challenge to port an app from one platform to the next, irrespective of how well you plan for such a move.As for Android and iOS, there are major differences, and hurdles to overcome between the two, and it will be interesting to see how your product team manages to reconcile it (especially the whole C++ vs. Java-based ABI). iOS is probably the more difficult of the two to develop and test with as well.Although, with Android, that’s one market you could potentially corner, and I’d even be willing to lend a hand. :PImagine how many new customers you’d gain, simply by having the best trading app on Android. ;)Now that that’s out of the way, I’ll resign myself to being a user, and give my two cents on your mobile app. By the screenshots you’ve presented, it looks like your product team is hitting the nail on the head. I want to be able to do anything imaginable with my portfolio with the utmost efficiency. ;)I believe others have already requested it, but it’d be nice to be able to deposit/withdraw funds to/from my account via the app as well. Additionally, real-time streaming quotes would be a godsend! When looking at a stock/ETF I also want to have the ability to view the EPS and dividend information (current as well as historic — including dividend distributions — like the flash charts in Google Finance.) I’m sure your product team already has this factored in, and I’m certain that the mechanism for displaying data will be flexible. :)Another useful feature to have would be alerts that can be set for certain events (i.e. transaction settlement, stock hits $x.xx, stock goes +/- some arbitrary amount or percentage, etc.)At any rate, keep up the good work!

  • https://www.zecco.com/ Michael Raneri, Zecco CEO

Tim, I’d like to thank you, and the rest of the Zecco community for your comments on our upcoming iPhone app. Many have asked why we are building for the iPhone platform first, rather than Android, Blackberry, Palm, and Windows Mobile. Your observations on the complexities of the different platforms were spot on Tim. That’s why we decided to focus on one platform first. I really wish that we could release our mobile trading app on all of the major platforms at the same time, but the truth is that it’s just not a practical approach. So why did we pick the iPhone? We surveyed a representative sample of our customers and found the following:1. The iPhone is the device that most of our customers own (by a sizable margin), followed by Blackberry, then Android.2. For future smart phone purchase intent, Zecco customers are roughly split between the iPhone and Android with a slight edge to iPhone, followed by Blackberry. Our plans include developing apps for all these great platforms, but we felt it best to put them on different schedules. There are some other questions that I would like to answer as well:1. Can I transfer money in and out of my accounts from the iPhone app? While this is on the product roadmap, this feature will not be available in the first version of the app. We want to get a great product to you as soon as possible and adding a feature like this would delay the product release. Bottom line: Expect this in a future release.2. Can you receive alerts on the iPhone app?The Zecco iPhone app will have the capability for you to receive alerts as “push notifications.” The type of alerts that are available are the same as those that can be found in the Alerts Center on the Zecco website: https://www.zecco.com/alerts-center.aspx.3. When does the beta testing begin? We plan to start the initial beta in December with 100 Zecco customers. Thanks again to all or you in helping shape this amazing product!

Thanks for the IPhone App !

I sure see a lot of people clamoring for Android, so I’ll chime in and say “Android please!”

  • Thunderb00lt

    Android please!

15 of my close friends switched to android last month and 5 of them are ex-Apple users. I’ve been on Android for 2 years now.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Adeezl Adam Hastings

+1 on Android. Google is literally twice as much as Apple on the market, but iphone releases first :P Makes sense, most folks use an iphone these days *cough* trash *cough* :D

  • Pjh316

would love to be in on the beta testing as i only trade from my iPhone during the workday.

  • DJalecC

Android app on this please ;-)

  • Peter

This looks really good! Actually a lot better than i thought. Can`t hardly wait to try out this app.

    Good job Zecco.

  • Mpdawson82

    When will it be out

  • Crimsntide09

    Mr. Raneri,

It truly looks like the sample survey iZecco performed was right outside either the Apple Headquarters or outside a Apple store in the mall. Although you MAY have a point in the amount of Zecco traders using the iPhone, I don’t think you took in the account of the wave of Android users that have recently hit the scene. iPhone has it’s popularity base, but of course it’s partly based on being “first out”. Zecco really should have considered the growing popularity of the Android platform which has in fact had iPhone as a competitor. And with certain limitations of the iPhone that are self imposed, I feel it’s only a matter of time before we see the Android pass it’s competition. When you roll out the Beta version, you might as well have AAPL “trade now” page to streamline the customers your already catering to….

  • Bigdanny08

I agree with the folks that want to have the service for android and other devices because it’s accommodative. I have a HTC Evo and I think it beats the pants off a iphone 4 abd it has a bigger screen so I could take full advantage of this awesome looking app you’ll have created. Send out a beta test option, i’d love to mess with it then give feedback.

  • BLPA

Zecco, I think your survey was done a good deal before Android became the OS with the quickest growing market penetration. Unfortunately, in the technology sector if you move too slowly then you miss the boat. It seems as though Zecco’s lack of foresight is coming at the expense of the consumer (us traders).

Mr Raneri, please step it up and innovate instead of react to the market. You are a small company and should be more nimble than this. Taking this long to get an app to market is unacceptable, you are not a government agency and theirfore should not take forever to bring product/offerings to market.

Do myself and the company a favor and get Android App out before 2011.

    ANDROID APP NOW PLEASE!

  • Mike.Walker

“Imagine how many new customers you’d gain, simply by having the best trading app on Android.”
    -Tim H.

This is huge. The Android OS is growing so rapidly, and as of yet the best Android trading app out there has to be the one by OptionsXpress. I was SERIOUSLY considering them, even with the 9.95 per trade because they had the best mobile trading app for Android. For a lot of Zecco users, I’d be willing to bet that we do most of our trading during the day while we work our “real jobs”. Being able to do that on a mobile device is a very large deciding factor when choosing a broker. In the end, I’m happy to hear that a Zecco Android app is coming in the future. I just hope it wont be like waiting for the release of Gran Turismo 5 or Duke Nukem Forever.

  • Zeccostinks

Great Post!! To bad Zecco is slow to listen to their customers

  • Derek

    Dear Raneri,

I’ve done most of my trading with TDAmeritrade mainly because they have an app for Android. I love the app and the convenience. I have been moving a big chunk of my cash to Zecco in the last several weeks in anticipation that there will be an app. I am disappointed to know that this release is only for iPhone and the Android version is far behind in schedule. I will continue to do most of my trades (average 50 trades a month) on TDA platform until you have an app for Android. I am sure you will win a lot of business once you release an app for iPhone & Android. Android platform is growing at a very fast rate. Please make sure you make an app for Android in a timely manner. Zecco has everything investors/traders want except a good app. That is the bottom line. Thank your consideration.

  • Bunty

Can’t wait to use the iPhone app on my iPhone. Really hope it happens soon.

  • Chris

Can I get in the beta testing program?

  • Hotdog

How about another update. Article is over a month old. Zecco you are frikn slow. Get that android app out before I change brokers

  • denton_12

I think I’m going to cheat a little bit here, I’m going to get the app for my ipod touch, and use my windows mobile hot spot app to allow me to use this on the go as well… it may be a very long way around, but it should allow me to enjoy this app.

  • Jasonslater97205

Android, Android, Android!! We need an Android app, I’m tired of using TDAmeritrade”s Android app to trade

  • http://www.imagenesparacelular.org imagenes para celular

I hope they develop an Android app, since the screenshot looks like the app is based on iOS
